Drawing Line In AutoCAD

Hello Noobsters, after learning about basic settings for drawing today we are going to learn about Drawing a line in AutoCAD. OK, let's get started.

You can draw a line using draw tool that is available on toolbar. Or you can type your command : L and Enter. In AutoCAD spacebar is also functioned like Enter key, that means you have 3 enter keys on your keyboard. That is 2 default Enter keys plus Spacebar.

Now let's draw a square of 50x50, we start from 1 X axis for 150 and on Y axis 100. Then at command prompt area just type "L" for line. Here AutoCAD asks you to specify first point, here you have to specify your coordinates on X axis you have to place 150 and on Y axis would be 100. So, for this you have to use 150,100 (Enter). You see, AutoCAD shows you the first point with the coordinate 150x100. Now, it asks to specify next point. Here you will draw a square with dimension 50x50, so your next coordinate will be 150,150 (Enter), then on specify next point type 100,150 (Enter), on next point type 100,100 (Enter). At end point AutoCAD shows you 2 options that is Close and Undo. Here you see "C" for Close, it is to close an object. It indicates with blue color. So to close your square just type C and press Enter. You see, now you have a square with 50x50 dimension.

To check your coordinate just type ID on the command prompt to identify your point. And click on bottom point to see the coordinate on X axis 100 and Y axis 100. Check another point, do the same thing type ID and you will see on X axis 150 and Y axis 100. This coordinate system probably familiar to you at High School Geometry Class. To cancel you commands just press the Esc key.

Relative Coordinate Method

There are several ways to draw an object with the help of line command. Second thing we will learn known as relative coordinate method. Relative coordinate specify the X and Y distance from the previous point, they are called relative coordinate because they only have meaning relative to a point previously specified.

For example you want to draw a square of 100x100, so you tell AutoCAD that the coordinates are relative by using @ symbol . At command prompt area type "L" and Enter, at first point just press anywhere on the screen or you can use the same thing with your previous coordinate method to give coordinate on X axis 250 and Y axis 150 (250,150). Now AutoCAD asks you to specify the next point, here you have to use @ symbol with the help of Shift + 2 Key. You see at the red symbol appears. Now you have to give your value, it is 100,0 (Enter). You don't need to use your mouse, just use keyboard entries. Now at second point type @0,100 (Enter). You see? it goes upwards. At third point : @-100,0 (why we use minus? because we are going to the left so its value decreases to minus). And at next point or to close the square just type "C" for close.
